Radioactive Waste Disposal Plants

Tema Sinergie designs and manufactures fully automated draining plants for:

  • collection of radioactive liquid and organic wastes coming from the wards
  • biological degradation of sewages
  • storage into tanks up to the needed decay
  • check and record of data

LRD and LRT are large dimension plants for draining and processing contaminated liquid and solid waste. These plants can manage different kinds of radioisotopes. LRD is dedicated to the Diagnostic, LRT to the Therapy departments. In most cases, they are used together for both applications as LRD/LRT.

EDEC and EDEC-S are plants of compact dimensions. EDEC is for treating liquids only, while EDEC-S can process both liquid and solid waste. These plants are dedicated to short-life radioisotopes.

LRD-LRT Features

Functioning

  • fully automatic radioactive waste treatment cycle, managed via software and by a small touch screen control panel

Depuration and Switching

  • Biological tanks (n. 2 Imhoff) for solid/liquid separation
  • 3-way switch valve with running flow to avoid clogging dangers
  • Indicators for valve position and tank exit clogging
  • Option: n. 1 tank with a grinding pump to send sewages to the depuration unit

Storage Unit for Decay

  • Collecting tank for radioactive liquids coming from the Imhoff tanks
  • Storage and decay tanks for radioactive liquids coming from the collecting tank

Sewages lifting and pumping group

  • Self-priming pumps: n. 3 for each storage tank
  • Hydraulic fitting
  • Waste level sensor

Double Containment System and Overflow Unit

  • Collection of sewages that could accidentally leak from tanks and pumping into the biological or storage tanks

Sampling Group

  • MIxing sewages contained into the tanks
  • Pumping system for sewages drawing in order to move them to Marinelli beaker (equipped with Nal(TI) probe)
  • Washing Marinelli beakers before and after each measurement

Detecting Group

  • Nal(TI) probe, 2" x 2"
  • Low background shield: 50 mm Pb with internal cadmium and copper lining
  • Measure geometry: Marinelli (2-liters capacity)

Management

  • Hardware: control PC, printer, multi-channel card
  • Complete spectrometry software
  • Data management software
  • Electrical control panel with Operator Panel Touch Screen PC
  • Option: Remote control PC for a complete system management

EDEC- EDEC-S Features

Functioning

  • n. 2 collecting tanks with a capacity of 1.000 lt. each

Sewages lifting and pumping group

  • Self-priming pumps: n. 3 for each storage tank
  • Hydraulic fitting
  • Waste level sensor

Detecting Group

  • GM Tube detector, with relevant waterproof container, dipped into the second tank
  • Option: Nal(TI) probe, 2" x 2" with relevant waterproof container, dipped into the second tank

  • Hardware: control PC, printer
  • Supervision software
  • Electrical control panel with Operator Panel Touch Screen PC
  • Measure analyzer, alarms register, reports, database with export tool
